Type into your PS5, and a better Remote Play picture

OmniControl 3.2 lets you type into the PS5's on-screen keyboard from your own keyboard, adds Broadcast quality and Frame generation for a smoother, sharper Remote Play picture, and fixes a long list of Remote Play connection and pairing problems.

v3.2.0 ·

Highlights

  • Type into your PS5: when the console opens its keyboard, type on yours instead of picking letters with a controller.
  • Broadcast: asks the PS5 for its best 1080p 60 fps picture, for streaming your console.
  • Frame generation and Smooth motion for a smoother stream.
  • Connect wakes a resting console, and pairing checks your details before it starts.
  • Remote Play tells you up front that it needs Pro.
  • One First-person shooter pack, Keyboard and Mouse Enhanced, in place of the old per-game ones.

Type into your PS5

When the console opens its on-screen keyboard, for a search, a message or a name, you can now type on your own keyboard instead of picking letters one at a time with a controller. The text goes to the console as you type, and closing the stream window cancels any field you were not typing into.

A better picture

  • Broadcast. A quality setting for streaming your PS5: it asks the console for 1080p at 60 fps at a much higher bitrate.
  • An automatic picture. By default the stream now picks the best picture your connection can carry, up to 1080p at 60 fps, with automatic upscaling.
  • Frame generation. OmniControl draws an extra picture between each pair the console sends, for smoother motion. It follows camera turns and keeps the game's HUD still.
  • Smooth motion. In fullscreen, the monitor runs at a rate that divides the stream's pictures evenly, so motion does not judder.
  • Settings that explain themselves. Every switch under Picture, Motion and Screenshots and clips now says what it does.

Connecting and pairing

  • Connect wakes a resting console before it connects.
  • A console added by its address can be paired.
  • Pairing checks your account id and PIN before it starts, and says what to check when something does not match.
  • When a connection fails or a reconnect gives up, the app says what really happened, and the display stays awake for the whole stream.
  • The page says before you pair that Remote Play needs Pro.

Playing on Remote Play

  • Stream shortcuts stay off the console. A Ctrl+Shift shortcut for the stream window no longer also presses its letter on the PS5.
  • The stream window names your real release key, says why a picture froze, and says when Drive a Controller is off.
  • A PC game starting in the background never swaps your profile in the middle of a Remote Play session.

Game Packs

The First-person shooter packs are now one pack, Keyboard and Mouse Enhanced, that works for the whole genre, and the PS5 presets point to OmniControl's own Remote Play.

Also

  • The update strip says which version it found and that it is updating.
  • New users see a strip at the top of the app offering the free trial.
  • "Delete your OmniControl data" in the uninstaller now also removes Remote Play pairings and the sign-in.
