Two controllers, one pad
Both hands arrive as a single controller: A, B, X and Y are the face buttons, the triggers are the analog triggers, the grips are the bumpers, the stick clicks are the stick presses, and Menu is Start.
An Xbox controller, or keyboard and mousePro
Choose what your game receives. A virtual Xbox controller suits anything with controller support; keyboard and mouse suits games that treat a controller as second class.

Set up in six steps
A Quest is the one controller that needs a little setup. The Meta Quest page in the app walks you through it and ticks each step off.

Install Meta's PC app and sign in
The Meta Horizon Link app (formerly Meta Quest Link). OmniControl reads your controllers through it, so it has to be running.

Connect your headset
With a Link cable, or with Air Link over your network.

Turn on Meta Quest in OmniControl
Open Meta Quest under Setup and press Turn on. If another controller is plugged in, press Use the Quest so it takes the active slot. OmniControl forgets that choice when it closes, so press it again next time.

Wake both controllers
Press a button on each. Touch controllers go to sleep quickly when they are set down.

Choose what your game sees
A game controller, or keyboard and mouse. Starting the output needs Pro. The first time you start a game controller, OmniControl installs the ViGEmBus driver it needs, and Windows may ask you to restart.

Take the headset off and play
Play on your monitor. OmniControl leaves the headset display alone, and the controllers keep working with it off.

Good to know
Which headsets work?
It is built for Quest 3 and Quest 3S with their Touch Plus controllers, and tested on a Quest 3. Quest 2 and Quest Pro have not been tested.
Do I have to wear the headset?
No. The headset has to stay connected over Link or Air Link with Meta's app running, but OmniControl reads the controllers without taking over the headset display, so you can take it off and play on your monitor. If you leave the controllers still for a while they go to sleep; press a button to wake them.
What happens if I keep the headset on?
Meta's own environment is still in front of you, so it reacts to the same presses: a grip can drag its desktop panel and the trigger clicks what the ray points at. Taking the headset off avoids that. A second mode, Take over the headset, stops it, but the headset shows a black screen and the controllers stop about half a minute after it comes off.
Can I use Virtual Desktop, Steam Link or SteamVR?
No. OmniControl reads the controllers through Meta's own PC software, so you need the Meta Horizon Link app with a Link cable or Air Link.
Doesn't Meta already do this?
Meta's Gamepad Mode and Virtual Desktop can both make Touch controllers act as an Xbox controller. OmniControl is a different tool: it reads the controllers on your PC through Meta's own software, leaves the headset display alone, and gives you full remapping, profiles, and keyboard-and-mouse output.
Is OmniControl made by Meta?
No. OmniControl is an independent app, not affiliated with or endorsed by Meta.
Is there a d-pad?
No. The pair has eleven controls you can bind: four face buttons, two triggers, two grips, two stick clicks and Menu. The Meta button stays with your headset. Shift layers, part of Pro, let one button do more.
Does vibration work?
Vibration on Quest controllers has not been confirmed on hardware yet, so do not count on it.
Is it free?
Turning Quest support on, seeing the controllers live and running the setup checks are free. Playing a game with them, as a virtual controller or as keyboard and mouse, needs Pro: $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
Will it work in every PC game?
Not every one. It is built for games that accept an Xbox controller or keyboard and mouse. Games that block virtual controllers, and anti-cheat systems that reject them, are not bypassed. Some online games forbid remapping or virtual controllers and can penalise your account for using them, and that risk sits with you as the player, so check a game's rules before you play.
