Multiplayer: local co-op for up to four players
OmniControl 3.1 adds Multiplayer to Drive a Controller. Play local co-op games on one PC with up to four players: your controller plays as itself, your keyboard and mouse become a second controller, and friends can join on their own controllers, their own keyboard, or by sharing yours.
v3.1.0 ·
Highlights
- Two players on one PC: your controller is player 1 and your keyboard and mouse are player 2, as an Xbox 360 or DualShock 4 controller.
- Up to four players: plug in more controllers and they join as players 3 and 4, with nothing to set.
- Make it an Xbox controller: PlayStation and other controllers work in games that only see Xbox controllers.
- Two keyboards, no controller needed: a second keyboard (and its mouse, if it has one) becomes a player of its own.
- Share one keyboard: a second player can play on the arrow keys while player 2 keeps WASD and the mouse.
- Look keys: a keyboard player without a mouse can turn the camera with keys.
- Every problem comes with one fix: hidden controllers, players in the wrong order and keys reaching the game each get a single button.
Multiplayer
Some games only do local co-op with controllers. Until now, if you played one of them with a controller and Drive a Controller at the same time, your controller ended up moving both characters. Multiplayer fixes that.
Open Drive a Controller and choose the new Multiplayer tab, then turn on Two players on one PC:
- Player 1 is your controller. Your game reads it directly, exactly as if OmniControl were closed.
- Player 2 is your keyboard and mouse, as a separate controller. Choose whether it shows up in the game as an Xbox 360 controller (works in almost every PC game) or a DualShock 4.
Then, on the game's co-op screen, press a button on the controller first and a key on the keyboard second. Player 2's keys and sensitivity are the ones on the Keyboard and mouse tab, so everything you have already set up carries over.
Up to four players
- More controllers join on their own. Plug one in while Multiplayer is on and it appears as player 3 or 4, playing as itself.
- Make it an Xbox controller. Many PC games only see Xbox controllers, so a PlayStation controller does nothing in them. One click makes every PlayStation and other controller show up as an Xbox controller in that game, rumble included. OmniControl remembers it per game.
- Hide the original. If a game sees a converted controller twice, one click and one Windows approval hide the original. It is shown to games again when co-op ends, and OmniControl reminds you if anything is still hidden.
- Their own keyboard. Click Add a player and ask your friend to press a key on their keyboard: it becomes a player of its own, with its own controller in the game. If they have a mouse, they move it next; if not, they look around with the arrow keys of their keyboard. No controller is needed at all, so two keyboards make a co-op game on their own.
- Share this keyboard. Click Add a player, then press an arrow key: a new player joins on the arrow keys of the same keyboard. The mouse stays with player 2, or you can give it to the new player.
- Look keys. Any keyboard player can now bind keys to look up, down, left and right, so a player without the mouse can still turn the camera.
If you only want one extra controller, nothing changes: the tab shows two players and one switch, and the rest appears only when you add a player.
Multiplayer is part of Pro.
