Mouse Mute becomes its own tool, with real fixes underneath it
Mouse Mute's driver installs more reliably on more PCs, and it now has its own dedicated tab: the mute toggle, mouse picker, panic key and Recover in one place. A movement-dropout bug during Drive a Controller is fixed, uninstalling is cleaner, and boot self-heal runs quietly in the background.
v2.9.6 ·
Highlights
- Mouse Mute is now its own tab, with the mute toggle, mouse picker, panic key and Recover together. The panic key defaults to End and can never be left unset.
- The driver installs more reliably: it no longer depends on a driver framework version some PCs were missing, so more installs succeed without extra setup.
- Fixed: Drive a Controller could stop tracking movement while armed. A watchdog was misreading a healthy driver as stalled and force-releasing held keys.
- Uninstalling Mouse Mute now waits for the driver to actually unload, and schedules the removal for your next reboot if it is still in use, rather than leaving it half-removed.
- Boot self-heal, which keeps the driver working after Windows updates, now runs automatically and quietly rather than needing a manual step.
Mouse Mute, on its own now
Mouse Mute has moved out of the Drivers card and into its own tab: the mute toggle, the mouse picker, the panic key and Recover all live together. The panic key defaults to End and always has a value, so there is no state where muting your mouse has no way back.
A more reliable driver
The underlying driver no longer depends on a driver framework version that some PCs did not have installed, which was the most common reason Mouse Mute failed to turn on. It should now install cleanly on more machines without any extra setup.
Fixes
- Drive a Controller could lose movement while armed. A watchdog meant to detect a stalled driver was misreading a healthy one, and force-releasing every held key when it did. Movement now keeps tracking correctly.
- Uninstalling is cleaner. OmniControl now waits for the driver to actually unload before saying it is gone, and if Windows is still holding it, schedules the removal for your next restart instead of leaving it in a half-removed state.
- Boot self-heal runs on its own. The check that keeps the driver working after a Windows update now happens automatically in the background.
