Design DualSense lightbar looks from solid colors to animated blocks - heartbeat, alternate, hue-shift - and let it react to what is happening.
Read the full documentationLightbar turns the DualSense light into a control surface you actually drive. Set a color, run a preset, build a multi-step animation on a timeline, or link the light to what your controller is doing. It is free in OmniControl, and it drives the DualSense lightbar directly over USB.
Overview
Lightbar controls the DualSense light with real animation, not a single fixed color. Nineteen presets ship in the box, from a plain Static color to Rainbow, Colour fade, Hue shift, Colour cycle, Breathing, Pulse, Heartbeat, Wave, Flash, Strobe, Alternate, and themed looks like Sunset, Ocean, Neon, Police, Alarm, Hazard, and Sleep.
The Lightbar Studio is where you build your own. It gives you a timeline editor for multi-step animations, brightness and looping control, a live preview on both an on-screen model and the physical controller, an animation library to save your work, and import/export so a look moves between machines. Audio reactive mode reads your desktop audio and drives the light off the sound, with adjustable sensitivity, a color choice, and a live level readout.
Event triggers connect the light to real controller state. The lightbar can react to connect or disconnect, battery low or charging, a profile being activated, a game launching, emulation being enabled, a macro running, or a button or trigger press.
Why use it
A static factory light tells you nothing. Lightbar makes the DualSense light informative and yours: a color per profile so you can see which layout is live at a glance, a low-battery warning before the pad dies mid-session, or a charging indicator you do not have to guess at. On a stream or at a desk, controller lighting that matches your setup reads as deliberate rather than default. Because everything runs from presets or a visual timeline, you get there without writing anything.
Use cases
- Profile at a glance. Bind a distinct color to each game profile through the profile-activated trigger, so the light confirms which setup loaded.
- Battery awareness. Use the battery-low and charging triggers to turn the light into a status indicator instead of checking a menu.
- Stream ambience. Run Audio reactive mode so the DualSense lightbar pulses with your game or music, tuned by the sensitivity control.
- Scene setting for single-player. Match a themed preset like Ocean, Sunset, or Neon to what you are playing for a light that fits the mood.
- Custom signature look. Build a multi-step animation in the Studio, save it to the library, and export it to reuse or share.
Supported devices and compatibility
Lightbar is a DualSense feature. The animated light, presets, Studio, audio reactive mode, and event triggers apply to the DualSense light bar. The DualSense extras, including lightbar control, come over USB. Connect the DualSense by cable to use Lightbar. Over Bluetooth those extras are not available, though standard remapping and emulation still work wirelessly.
Limitations
Lightbar drives the DualSense light specifically, so controllers without a software-addressable light bar do not gain lighting from this feature. The connection matters too: the light bar responds over USB, not over Bluetooth. If you plan to use lighting during a session, plug the pad in.
Tips and best practices
Tip
Pair a lightbar color with each profile using the profile-activated event trigger. When a game auto-loads its profile, the light changes with it, giving you an instant, glance-able confirmation of which layout is live without opening the app.
Keep animations simple for status roles and save the elaborate timelines for ambience. A single steady color reads faster as a signal than a busy loop. When you build in the Studio, watch both the on-screen and physical previews, since brightness and pacing look different on real hardware. Save finished looks to the animation library so you can recall or export them later.
Works with the rest of OmniControl
Lightbar sits alongside the pad's physical feedback: pair it with haptics for rumble and with adaptive triggers for per-zone DualSense resistance, all of which live over the same USB connection. Its event triggers tie into the broader platform, so a light change can follow a profile switch or a game launch. To show your live pad, and the lighting, on stream, use the overlay.
