Lightbar

OmniControl turns the DualSense lightbar into a full lighting system with presets, a timeline animation editor, audio-reactive colour, and event triggers. Lightbar control is free and runs over USB.

Overview

The lightbar is the coloured LED bar on a DualSense controller. OmniControl reads and drives it directly, so you can set a static colour, run a built-in effect, build your own animation, react to desktop audio, or change the colour automatically when something happens on your PC.

Everything on this page is free. The lightbar is a DualSense feature and works over USB. Over Bluetooth the lightbar and the other DualSense extras are not available, though standard remapping still works. If you also tune rumble, see Haptics; for the trigger resistance editor, see Adaptive Triggers.

How it works

OmniControl controls the lightbar in four ways, from simple to advanced:

  • Presets. One-click lighting effects. Available presets: Static, Rainbow, Colour fade, Hue shift, Colour cycle, Breathing, Pulse, Heartbeat, Wave, Flash, Strobe, Alternate, Sunset, Ocean, Neon, Police, Alarm, Hazard, and Sleep.
  • Studio. A timeline editor for building multi-step animations. Set brightness and looping, preview on screen and on the controller, save to an animation library, and import or export animations to share them.
  • Audio reactive. The lightbar responds to your desktop audio. Set the sensitivity and the colour, and watch the live level meter to confirm it is picking up sound.
  • Event triggers. Change the lighting automatically in response to a PC event. Triggers include connect and disconnect, battery low or charging, profile activated, game launched, emulation enabled, macro executed, and a button or trigger press.

Lightbar settings save per profile, so each game or setup can carry its own look. See Profiles to bundle a lightbar look with your remaps and tuning.

Getting started

1

Connect a DualSense over USB

Plug a DualSense into a USB port. The lightbar controls appear once OmniControl detects the pad. Over Bluetooth the lightbar is not available.

2

Pick a preset

Open the Lightbar page and choose a preset such as Static, Breathing, or Rainbow. The change previews on screen and on the controller immediately.

3

Set a colour and brightness

For colour-based presets, choose your colour and adjust brightness to taste.

4

Build an animation in Studio

Open Studio to create a multi-step animation on the timeline. Add steps, set brightness and looping, and use the live and controller preview to check the result.

5

Save or export

Save the animation to your library. Use import and export to back it up or share it. Lightbar settings save with the active profile.

Common use cases

  • Match a colour to a game. Set a static colour per profile so the lightbar signals which game or setup is active.
  • Ambient effects. Run Breathing, Colour fade, or Sunset for a calm look while you play or stream.
  • Audio-reactive mood. Use audio reactive so the lightbar pulses with music, gameplay, or a stream.
  • Status at a glance. Use event triggers to flash on low battery, change colour when a profile activates, or signal that emulation is running.
  • Themed animations. Build a Police, Alarm, or custom Studio animation for a specific moment, then trigger it on a button press.

Best practices

  • Use USB. The lightbar and other DualSense extras only work over a wired connection.
  • Save lightbar looks inside a profile so each game loads its own lighting.
  • When building animations, keep step counts reasonable and use looping for continuous effects rather than a long chain of identical steps.
  • For audio reactive, check the live level meter first. If it stays flat, adjust the sensitivity until the meter tracks your audio.
  • Export animations you care about so you keep a backup and can reuse them across setups.

Tips

Tip

Pair event triggers with your workflow. Set a low-battery trigger to flash amber so you notice a dying pad before it disconnects, and a "profile activated" trigger to confirm the right profile loaded. If you stream, the lightbar and the Overlay together make your controller state readable on camera.

Anti-cheat and fair play

OmniControl is built for single-player and controller-friendly games. It is not a tool for defeating anti-cheat, and kernel-level anti-cheat competitive shooters are out of scope by design. The lightbar itself only changes lighting and does not affect input, but features it can react to, such as emulation and macros, are Pro and follow the same boundary. OmniControl never helps evade anti-cheat and fails closed where a title forbids virtual controllers.

Troubleshooting

The lightbar controls do not appear. Confirm the controller is a DualSense and is connected over USB. Bluetooth does not expose the lightbar. Reconnect the cable and check the pad in the controller viewer.

Audio reactive is not responding. Watch the live level meter. If it does not move, raise the sensitivity and make sure desktop audio is actually playing. If the meter moves but the light barely changes, increase the sensitivity further.

My animation does not loop. Open the animation in Studio and enable looping. Without it, the animation plays once and stops on the final step.

An event trigger did not fire. Confirm the event actually occurred (for example, that a profile activated or emulation was enabled) and that the trigger is set for that event. Pro-only events such as emulation and macros require those features to be running.

Lighting reset after I switched games. Lightbar settings save per profile. If a different profile loaded, it applied its own lighting. Save the look you want inside the profile for that game.

FAQ

Is the lightbar free?

Yes. Lightbar control, including Studio, audio reactive, and event triggers, is free.

Which controllers have a lightbar?

The lightbar is a DualSense feature. It is available on a DualSense connected over USB.

Does the lightbar work over Bluetooth?

No. The lightbar and the other DualSense extras require USB. Standard remapping still works over Bluetooth.

Can I share my animations?

Yes. Studio supports import and export, so you can back up animations or share them with others.

What events can change the lighting?

Connect and disconnect, battery low or charging, profile activated, game launched, emulation enabled, macro executed, and a button or trigger press. Events tied to Pro features such as emulation and macros require those features.

Where do lightbar settings save?

Per profile, alongside your remaps and tuning. Read the profiles guide to see everything a profile carries, and the controller setup guide to get a DualSense connected.
