Installation

OmniControl installs as a standard Windows desktop app. The ViGEmBus driver it needs to present a virtual controller to your games is a separate one-click install from the Drivers card in Settings. This page covers system requirements, the install itself, first launch, sign-in, and how signed updates arrive in-app.

System requirements

• Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
• Roughly 100 MB of free disk space. The installer is about 35 MB; Download always shows the exact size for the current version.
• A controller connected over USB or Bluetooth. Supported pads include the DualSense, DualSense Edge, DualShock 4, DualShock 3, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox Elite Series 2, Switch Pro Controller, and generic HID gamepads. See Controller setup for connection details.
• A keyboard and mouse if you plan to drive a virtual pad with Keyboard and Mouse on controller-only games.

Some DualSense extras, including adaptive triggers, gyro, touchpad, and the lightbar, work over USB only. Standard remapping and emulation still work over Bluetooth.

What the installer sets up

The installer places one thing on your PC: the OmniControl app. It does not bundle a driver.

The ViGEmBus kernel driver is a separate install, but not a manual one: open Settings, find the Drivers card, and press Install next to ViGEmBus. OmniControl fetches and installs it for you in one click, so there is no driver hunting and no download to find yourself. ViGEmBus is what lets OmniControl present a virtual Xbox 360 or DualShock 4 to your games, so a title sees a genuine device rather than an injector.

First launch

When OmniControl opens, connect a controller and confirm it appears as a live 3D model that lights up as you press buttons and move the sticks. This live view, along with diagnostics and calibration, is free and needs no account. If a pad does not appear, check the USB cable or the Bluetooth pairing and see Troubleshooting.

From here you can explore the free toolkit right away: the live viewer, input diagnostics, calibration, button and keyboard bindings, basic stick and trigger tuning, lighting, and haptics. Controller-to-controller remaps and tuning reach a game once Emulation is running, which is where Pro comes in.

Free and Pro

You can install OmniControl and use it free indefinitely. The controller manager, live 3D viewer, diagnostics, calibration, button and keyboard-and-mouse bindings, basic stick and trigger tuning, lighting, haptics, motion controls, the watermarked overlay, and your profiles and game library are all free.

Pro unlocks Emulation, Macros, the Stick and Trigger Studio custom curves, the Adaptive Trigger Studio, the Recorder with ghost practice, automatic per-game switching, and overlay watermark removal. Full details are on the pricing page.

Signed in-app updates

Updates are delivered inside the app and are cryptographically signed, so OmniControl verifies each release before it applies. When a new version is available, the app prompts you and updates in place. You do not download or run installers manually after the first setup. See Download for the current version.

Uninstalling

Remove OmniControl from Windows Settings under Apps, the same as any other program. The ViGEmBus driver can stay installed with no effect on your system, or you can remove it separately from the same Apps list if you no longer use any software that relies on it.

Troubleshooting the install

• The virtual controller does not appear in a game. Confirm you are on Pro and that emulation is running, then open Settings and check the Drivers card. If ViGEmBus is not marked installed, press Install. Reinstalling OmniControl does NOT install the driver - it never has - so this is the fix after a Windows reset or refresh, which removes ViGEmBus and leaves OmniControl looking fine.
• A game rejects the virtual pad. Some titles, usually those with anti-cheat, block virtual controllers on purpose. This is expected behavior and is covered below.
• A controller is not detected. Try a different USB port or cable, or re-pair over Bluetooth. See Troubleshooting for a full checklist.
