Motion aiming
Motion aiming uses your controller's built-in gyroscope for fine aim. Small tilts of the pad become precise cursor movement that layers over the right stick, so the stick handles large turns while gyro does the close work.
Overview
Motion controls turn the gyroscope inside a modern pad into an aiming tool. Instead of replacing the right stick, gyro aiming stacks on top of it as a correction layer: you keep the stick for wide turns and use small wrist movement to settle the crosshair. This is the same technique that makes gyro popular on the Switch and in gyro-friendly PC games, brought to any supported OmniControl pad that reports motion.
Motion aiming is a Free feature. It includes always-on and hold-to-activate modes, adjustable motion sensitivity, motion smoothing, motion calibration, and a motion visualiser so you can see the gyro reading in real time. For emulators, OmniControl exposes gyro through a DSU motion server and a Dolphin bridge.
How it works
The gyroscope measures the physical rotation of your controller and OmniControl maps that rotation to aim input. The mapping is additive. Your right stick still produces its base aiming with its own response curve, deadzone, and per-stick sensitivity, and gyro adds movement on top of whatever the stick is already doing. Hold the pad level and the stick behaves normally; tilt it and gyro nudges the aim.
Motion sensitivity controls how much aim movement a given amount of physical rotation produces. Motion smoothing filters small jitter so a shaky hand does not translate into a shaky crosshair. Motion calibration records the pad's resting orientation so a stationary controller reads as zero movement rather than slow drift.
For emulated output, OmniControl runs a DSU (cemuhook) motion server that feeds gyro and accelerometer data to emulators that read it. The Dolphin bridge passes motion straight through to a Wii Remote or GameCube controller, so pointer and tilt controls work in Dolphin. Emulation and its motion bridges are Pro; native motion aiming on a physical pad is Free.
USB for DualSense motion
DualSense extras, including gyro, come over USB only. Connect a DualSense with a wired cable for motion aiming; over Bluetooth the gyro data is not available. Other pads that report a gyro can feed motion too, and a wired connection is the most reliable way to carry it.
Getting started
Connect over USB
Plug the controller in with a cable. On a DualSense the gyro only reports over USB. See Controller setup if the pad is not detected.
Calibrate motion
Rest the controller flat and run motion calibration so a stationary pad reads as zero. This removes resting drift before you tune anything.
Enable motion
Turn on gyro aiming for the current profile.
Choose an activation mode
Pick always-on or hold-to-activate. Bind a button first if you want hold-to-activate.
Set sensitivity and smoothing
Raise motion sensitivity for faster gyro turns, lower it for slow micro-adjustments, then add smoothing if the aim feels jittery.
Test and refine
Aim in-game, watch the motion visualiser or the overlay, and adjust until the correction feels natural.
Activation modes
Always-on
Gyro is active the whole time you play. Aim tracks how you hold and move the controller, so you can make constant micro-adjustments without pressing anything. This suits players who keep the pad level and want gyro doing the fine work at all times.
Hold-to-activate
Bind a button and gyro only aims while you hold it. Releasing the button lets you reposition or rest the controller without the aim drifting. This keeps a steady neutral and turns motion on only when you need to correct a shot, which is the common choice for players new to gyro.

Best practices
Tune your stick first. Because gyro stacks on the stick, set the right stick response, deadzone, and sensitivity the way you like in Sticks, then add motion on top. Calibrate before every session or after the pad has been sitting, since resting orientation can drift over time. Start with hold-to-activate to learn the feel, then move to always-on once small tilts feel natural. Keep motion sensitivity modest at first; most players over-set it and end up fighting an oversteering crosshair. Save your settings per profile so the right mode and sensitivity load automatically for each game.
Tips
Watch it live
The motion visualiser and Overlay Studio both mirror your live controller, which is the fastest way to confirm gyro input is registering and to see how much movement your tilts produce before you commit to a sensitivity value.
Anti-cheat boundary
OmniControl is built for single-player and controller-friendly games. It is not a tool for defeating anti-cheat, and kernel-level anti-cheat competitive shooters are out of scope by design. Motion aiming on an emulated pad is not intended for those titles, and if a game rejects a virtual controller, OmniControl does not bypass it.
Troubleshooting
No motion at all on a DualSense. Check the connection. Gyro only reports over USB; a Bluetooth DualSense will not send motion data. Reconnect with a wired cable.
Aim drifts while the pad is still. Run motion calibration with the controller resting flat. This records a clean zero point and removes slow drift.
The crosshair feels twitchy. Lower motion sensitivity and raise motion smoothing. Twitch usually means the sensitivity is doing too much work for the size of your movements.
Gyro fights the stick. Remember the two combine. If aim overshoots, reduce motion sensitivity rather than the stick, or switch to hold-to-activate so gyro only acts when you want it.
No motion in an emulator. Confirm the emulator is pointed at the DSU motion server, or that the Dolphin bridge is active for a Wii Remote or GameCube target. Emulation is a Pro feature.

Is motion aiming free?

Which controllers support motion?

Do motion settings save per game?
