Calibration

Controller calibration measures how far your sticks and triggers wander from their true resting and travel points, then stores a correction snapshot the app applies underneath every other setting. OmniControl also calibrates your mouse DPI and in-game turn rate so keyboard-and-mouse aim tracks the way you expect.

Overview

Every physical stick and trigger has slack. A stick may not sit dead center at rest, and a trigger may bottom out before or after its expected travel point. Left uncorrected, that slack shows up as stick drift, aim that pulls to one side, or a trigger that fires early. The calibration wizard measures these offsets and writes a snapshot the app corrects against, so your tuning starts from a clean baseline.

Calibration is separate from tuning. It fixes hardware error; your feel settings live on the Sticks and Triggers pages. OmniControl bundles three related measurements under calibration:

  • Stick and trigger drift measurement, saved as a snapshot per profile.
  • Mouse DPI measurement, for keyboard-and-mouse aim.
  • Turn-rate calibration with a real cm/360 figure, also for keyboard and mouse.

Calibration is free, and it needs no account.

How it works

The stick and trigger wizard reads raw hardware values while you move the controls through their full range. It records the resting position of each stick to find center offset, the outer edge of each stick to find range, and the true endpoints of each trigger. The result is a correction snapshot stored inside the active profile, so different controllers and games keep their own readings. The correction is applied below your deadzones and curves, which means your stick and trigger tuning operates on already-corrected input.

Mouse DPI cannot be read from the device, because Windows exposes no reliable API for it. OmniControl measures DPI with a drag wizard instead: you drag the mouse a known physical distance, and it counts the raw mouse counts over that distance to compute DPI. The value is stored per mouse in Settings, not in a profile.

Turn-rate calibration establishes how fast your camera turns in a specific game. You line up a fixed landmark, press F8, turn exactly one full circle, then press F8 again. OmniControl locks your in-game turn rate from that single circle. Combined with the measured DPI, it produces a real cm/360 figure, the standard FPS sensitivity unit that describes centimeters of mouse travel per one full in-game turn. Device diagnostics run alongside calibration: connection type, battery, and live input readouts confirm the controller is reporting cleanly before you trust a measurement. The Live Controller Viewer shows the same signals as a 3D model.

Getting started

Connect the controller over USB or Bluetooth and confirm it appears as a live 3D model before you begin.

Open Calibration

Go to the Calibration page. The wizard opens with the connected controller selected.

Center the sticks

Let both sticks rest untouched. The wizard reads their resting position to measure center drift. Do not touch the sticks during this step.

Sweep the sticks

Rotate each stick fully around its edge a few times so the wizard captures the outer range. Move at a steady pace and reach the full extent in every direction.

Pull the triggers

Press each trigger slowly from rest to fully pulled, then release. This records the real travel points at both ends.

Save the snapshot

Confirm the readings. The wizard writes the snapshot into the active profile and applies it immediately.

For keyboard-and-mouse play, run the DPI drag wizard once per mouse, then run turn-match in each game you play.

  • Correcting stick drift on an aging controller so it centers cleanly before you add a deadzone.
  • Fixing a trigger that registers early or never reaches full pull.
  • Giving a new profile its own snapshot rather than inheriting another profile's readings.
  • Measuring mouse DPI so the Keyboard and Mouse aim math is accurate.
  • Setting a per-game turn rate so mouse aim tracks the camera instead of drifting past your target.
  • Confirming a controller reports cleanly after a firmware update or repair.

Best practices

  • Run calibration first, before you tune. A clean baseline means your deadzones and curves correct feel, not hardware error.
  • Recalibrate after switching controllers or changing the connection. USB and Bluetooth can read slightly differently.
  • Keep one snapshot per profile so each game and controller pairing carries its own correction.
  • Measure mouse DPI once per mouse and reuse it. It rarely changes.
  • Redo turn-match whenever you change a game's in-game controller sensitivity, since the turn rate moves with it.

Tips

Calibrate before you tune

If a stick still drifts after calibration, add a small deadzone on the Sticks page. Calibration removes measurable offset; a deadzone covers the small remainder.

Set your game's controller sensitivity high, often to maximum, before running turn-match. A higher in-game sensitivity raises the game's turn cap, so more of your mouse motion maps directly before it saturates. The honest promise is 1:1 up to your game's turn cap.

Built for single-player and controller-friendly games

OmniControl is built for single-player and controller-friendly games, not for defeating anti-cheat. Titles that run kernel-level anti-cheat are out of scope by design. Calibration, remapping, and emulation are not meant to work around them, and OmniControl will not bypass a game that blocks virtual controllers.

Troubleshooting

  • A stick still drifts after calibration. Re-run the wizard and let the sticks rest fully untouched during the center step, then add a small deadzone on the Sticks page for any remainder.
  • Readings look wrong or noisy. Check the Live Controller Viewer and device diagnostics to confirm the controller is connected and reporting cleanly, then calibrate again.
  • Trigger never reaches full. Pull each trigger to a hard stop during the trigger step so the wizard records the true endpoint, and check trigger travel on the Triggers page.
  • Mouse aim drifts past the target after you stop moving. Run turn-match in that specific game with F8, since raw stick-from-mouse needs the game's real turn rate to track correctly.
  • A new controller carried over old readings. Calibration is per profile. Create or select the right profile, then run the wizard so it stores its own snapshot.

Is calibration free?

Yes. Calibration, diagnostics, and the Live Controller Viewer are free and need no account. Emulation, the Studios, macros, and the recorder are Pro.

Where is the calibration snapshot stored?

Inside the active profile, alongside your remaps, stick curves, trigger feel, and emulation output. See Profiles and Game Center.

Does calibration replace deadzones and curves?

No. Calibration corrects hardware drift underneath your tuning. Deadzones, response curves, and trigger travel still live on the Sticks and Triggers pages.

Why does OmniControl measure DPI by dragging the mouse?

Windows has no reliable way to read DPI from a mouse, so OmniControl counts the raw mouse counts over a known physical distance you drag. DPI is stored per mouse in Settings.

What is cm/360?
