Shape how each thumbstick reads against how far you push it, so aim and movement feel exactly the way you want. Basic tuning is free; hand-drawn custom response curves are part of Pro.
Overview
Stick Studio is the stick-tuning surface in OmniControl. It gives you per-stick control over the full path from raw hardware position to the value a game receives: response curve, deadzone, outer deadzone, anti-deadzone, anti-snapback, sensitivity, vertical scale, rotation, max output, and square stick mode. A live stick trace shows your changes as you move, so you tune against real motion instead of guessing.
Basic tuning covers deadzones, sensitivity, and the built-in curve presets, all free. Drawing a custom response curve by hand is a Pro feature. See Pricing for the one-time upgrade.
How it works
Each setting acts at a specific stage between the physical stick and the game.
- Response curve remaps input position to output position. Presets like Precision (finer control near center) and Aggressive (faster ramp) cover common feels. A hand-drawn custom curve gives exact control over every point and is a Pro capability.
- Deadzone ignores input near the resting center, which hides drift from a worn stick.
- Outer deadzone treats the far edge of the stick's range as full output, so you reach 100 percent before the stick physically bottoms out.
- Anti-deadzone pushes past a game's own built-in deadzone so the smallest real movement reaches the game right away.
- Anti-snapback smooths the overshoot when you release a stick and it springs back through center.
- Sensitivity scales the stick's overall range up or down.
- Vertical scale adjusts the up/down axis independently, useful when a game's vertical aim feels faster or slower than horizontal.
- Rotation turns the whole stick axis by a set angle to correct a mis-seated stick or match a preferred orientation.
- Max output caps the highest value the stick sends, which limits top turn speed for steadier tracking.
- Square stick mode changes the range shape so the corners of the physical range map through, giving more reach on diagonals.
Tuning shapes the signal, but it sits on top of the hardware. If a stick reads uneven at rest, correct that first with Calibration, which measures drift and stores a snapshot per profile.
Getting started
Open the Sticks tab
Select the stick you want to tune. The live trace panel shows the current stick position as a moving dot.
Set the deadzone
Move the stick to rest and watch the trace. Raise the deadzone just until idle drift stops, then leave it as low as the hardware allows so small movements still register.
Pick a response curve
Start with a preset. Choose Precision for finer aim near center or Aggressive for faster turns. On Pro, draw a custom curve for exact control.
Adjust sensitivity and range
Set sensitivity, vertical scale, and max output to match the feel you want. Use the trace to confirm the stick reaches full output where you expect.
Save to a profile
Every setting saves into the active profile. Keep one profile per game so your stick feel loads automatically. See Profiles.
Common use cases
- Kill stick drift on a worn controller. Raise the deadzone enough to hide idle creep, then run Calibration to correct the underlying drift.
- Tighten aim in a shooter. Apply a Precision curve and a small max output cap for steadier tracking near center.
- Speed up slow turns. Use an Aggressive curve or higher sensitivity so a smaller push produces a faster turn.
- Fix an unresponsive feel. Add anti-deadzone so the game reacts to the first real movement instead of needing a large push.
- Balance vertical against horizontal. Set vertical scale so up and down aim matches your left/right speed.
- Reach corners in twin-stick and racing games. Turn on square stick mode for more diagonal range.
Best practices
- Run Calibration before tuning so your curves start from a clean, drift-free baseline.
- Change one setting at a time and watch the live trace. Small deadzone and sensitivity moves have large in-game effects.
- Keep deadzones as low as the hardware allows. Over-large deadzones make small aim adjustments disappear.
- Save a separate profile per game. Aim feel that works in one title rarely transfers to another.
- Pair stick tuning with Motion aiming, where gyro sensitivity stacks on top of the right stick as fine correction rather than a replacement.
Tips
Read the trace, not the numbers
The live stick trace tells you more than any slider value. Push the stick through a full circle and watch where the output saturates and where it sits at rest. Tune until the trace matches how you actually move, then leave it alone.
Stick tuning shapes the input. To change how that input reaches a game, or to feel it in a controller-only title, pair it with Emulation, which presents a virtual Xbox 360 or DualShock 4 pad. Trigger tuning lives on its own page at Triggers.
Troubleshooting
- The stick still drifts after raising the deadzone. The hardware drift is larger than your deadzone. Run Calibration to measure and correct it, then re-tune.
- Aim feels floaty or overshoots on release. Increase anti-snapback to smooth the spring-back through center.
- The stick never reaches full output. Lower the outer deadzone, or add anti-deadzone if a game ignores small movements.
- My tuning does not affect the game. Controller-to-controller tuning reaches a game through Emulation, which is Pro. A free user can configure and preview stick feel, and it takes effect in-game once Emulation is running.
- The custom curve editor is locked. Presets are free. Drawing a custom curve by hand is a Pro feature. See Pricing.
FAQ
Is stick tuning free?
Yes. Deadzones, sensitivity, the built-in curve presets, and every other basic control are free. Only the hand-drawn custom response curve requires Pro.
What is the difference between deadzone and anti-deadzone?
Deadzone ignores input near center to hide drift. Anti-deadzone pushes past a game's own internal deadzone so the smallest real movement registers immediately. They solve opposite problems and can be used together.
Where do my stick settings save?
Into the active profile. Keep one profile per game and your stick feel loads automatically. See Profiles.
Should I calibrate or tune first?
Calibrate first. Calibration corrects hardware drift underneath your tuning, so your curves start from a clean baseline.
Does stick tuning help with keyboard and mouse input?

Anti-cheat boundary
OmniControl is built for single-player and controller-friendly games. It is not a tool for defeating anti-cheat, and kernel-level anti-cheat competitive shooters are out of scope by design. Stick tuning reaches a game through a genuine virtual device, but that does not exempt any title's rules. If a game blocks virtual controllers, that is expected and OmniControl does not bypass it.
