Controller calibration in OmniControl measures the hardware error in your sticks and triggers, then stores a correction snapshot so every tuning layer you build sits on top of an accurate baseline. It is a guided wizard that reads real values from your pad, records where each axis rests and how far it travels, and saves the result per profile. Calibration is free, no account required, and it is the step to run first before you touch curves or deadzones.

Overview

Calibration walks each stick and trigger through a short guided routine and captures the true range of motion. It records the resting position of each stick (where it sits untouched), the full extent of travel, and the point where a trigger starts and stops reporting. That measured snapshot becomes the reference OmniControl uses underneath your stick and trigger settings, so a deadzone or curve you set is applied to a clean, centered signal rather than a drifting one.

Calibration also covers the mouse side of the platform. A drag wizard measures your mouse DPI by having you move the mouse a known physical distance while it counts raw mouse counts, since Windows exposes no reliable API to read DPI from the device. That figure feeds turn-rate calibration, which converts your measured in-game turn into a real cm/360 value (centimeters of mouse travel per one full in-game rotation), the standard FPS sensitivity unit used when driving a virtual pad from keyboard and mouse.

Why use it

Stick drift and off-center rest positions are hardware faults that no software curve fixes on its own. If a stick reports motion while you are not touching it, or rests slightly off center, every deadzone and sensitivity value you set is working against a moving target. Calibration measures that error directly and corrects for it underneath your tuning, so the numbers you dial in behave the way you expect. Anyone tuning a controller benefits, and it is essential for an older or heavily used pad where drift has crept in.

Use cases

  • Fixing stick drift on a worn pad. Run calibration to measure exactly how far a stick has drifted off center, then let OmniControl hold the corrected baseline while you play.
  • Setting an accurate deadzone. Calibrate first so your deadzone in Stick Studio is measured against a true center, not a false one.
  • Dialing in trigger travel. Capture where each trigger actually begins and ends its pull before setting activation points in Trigger Studio.
  • Preparing keyboard and mouse play. Measure DPI once and run turn-rate calibration so mouse-to-stick aim tracks correctly for Keyboard & Mouse instead of drifting past your target.
  • Diagnosing a suspect controller. Use the device diagnostics alongside calibration to confirm whether a stick or trigger is failing.

Supported devices and compatibility

Stick and trigger calibration, often called joystick calibration, works with every supported controller: Sony DualSense, DualSense Edge, DualShock 4 and DualShock 3; Microsoft Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox Elite Series 2; the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller; and generic HID gamepads. Connect over USB or Bluetooth. DPI measurement and turn-rate calibration apply to your mouse and are stored per mouse in Settings, separate from a controller profile. OmniControl runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

Limitations

Calibration corrects measured error, but it cannot repair failed hardware. A stick that is physically breaking down will still show erratic values that no snapshot can fully mask, and diagnostics will make that visible. DPI cannot be read from the mouse directly, which is why the drag wizard measures it by hand; the more carefully you drag the known distance, the more accurate the resulting cm/360. Turn-rate calibration reflects the game's turn behavior at the time you measure it, so if you change the game's in-game controller sensitivity later, run turn-match again.

Tips and best practices

Tip

Run calibration before you build any curves or deadzones. It sets a clean baseline, so the values you dial in afterward describe your intended feel rather than compensating for uncorrected drift. If a pad ever feels off, recalibrate before assuming a tuning value is wrong.

Recalibrate after a firmware update, a hard knock, or any time a stick feels off center. The calibration snapshot saves per profile, so a controller you use across several games can carry a different baseline in each. Keep DPI measured once per mouse and redo turn-rate calibration whenever you change a game's controller sensitivity.

Warning

OmniControl is built for single-player and controller-friendly games, not for defeating anti-cheat. Kernel-level anti-cheat competitive shooters are out of scope by design. We ship no Keyboard & Mouse presets for competitive shooters that pair kernel anti-cheat with controller aim assist, and that is a choice about what we publish rather than a lock on your machine. If a game blocks virtual controllers, that is expected and OmniControl does not bypass it.
